**Cost of medication will increase when dose increases. Semaglutide will increase when doses exceed 1 mg weekly. Tirzapetide will increase when doses exceed 10 mg weekly.
Some HSA and FSA plans will cover injectable GLP-1 costs. If you have these benefits available to you, please check with your individual plan carrier to see if you can apply those benefits to the cost of the medication. The consultation and monthly prescribing/management fee cannot be billed through insurance, however, if your insurance will cover weight loss consultation and medication, going through your primary care provider may be a better option for you.
No, there is an oral formulation of these medications available. If you are not interested in taking shots, the cost is slightly higher but it is available as an under the tongue tincture that can be taken daily instead of weekly.
I want to do the injections but do not know how to give myself shots, what can I do?

After your appointment, it takes approximately 1 business day for the pharmacy to receive your prescription. After they contact you for payment and address verification, it typically takes 2 more business days to receive the medications. You can get started in as little as 3 business days.
Lab work within the past year including blood counts (CBC), metabolic function (BMP), cholesterol levels (if available), Hemoglobin A1c and thyroid function (TSH). If you have had these drawn within the past year, we can use those lab results, otherwise after you schedule your appointment at moXihealth, please reach out and we will assist you in obtaining a lab draw. Also, please have a current medication list, medical history, and allergy information available.
All medications can have side effects and GLP-1 medications are no exception. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, indigestion, irritation at the injection site, headache, dizziness and mild increased heart rate are common side effects. Low blood sugar is a side effect but typically only happens if you are taking another medication known to lower your blood sugar. Serious side effects include pancreatitis, gastroparesis, bowel obstruction, gallstone attacks and bile duct blockage. Most individuals who take GLP-1 medications do well when they combine the medications with a healthy diet, maintaining hydration and mild exercise.
It is not recommended for people with a history or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, pancreatitis. small bowel obstructions or gastroparesis to take GLP-1 medications. Anybody with an active eating disorder or BMI less than 21 should not take GLP-1 medications. Questions will be addressed at the consultation and an individual plan will be arranged.
